Zenity is Cool

I’d heard of Zenity before, but I had no idea what it was. Then, the other day on the Ubuntu Forums, I was looking for a way to create a keyboard shortcut for emptying the trash in Gnome (not immediately, but with a confirmation dialogue), and the fine folk at the Forums suggested I use Zenity to have a shell script create a graphical confirmation dialogue (“Are you sure you want to permanently delete items from the trash?”).

Here’s the solution, in case anyone’s curious.

Zenity’s cool. I’m no programmer, but I do occasionally create simple shell scripts, and this could come in handy for the future.

  1. It surprises me that you just now start using it, Aysiu. But I have to agree, Zenity is a very good program, as it doesn’t have to be compiled, saving time and effort.

  2. Well, I may be a Ubuntu user of 2+ years, but I’m still just a beginner in many ways, and I am not a programmer. Still exploring Zenity…
