Ubuntu users abound

July 27th, 2007

Yesterday my wife said she spotted a Ubuntu user in a cafe.

Me: So you saw Ubuntu on the screen.
Her: I didn’t see his laptop screen, but he had a Ubuntu sticker on the outside of his computer.
Me: Was he a fat white guy with a beard?
Her: No, he was a skinny geek.
Me: Oh, yeah. Did you say anything?
Her: No. I was afraid he’d then start talking to me about Ubuntu.
Me: Yeah, you’re right. He probably would have.

Geez. I know I would have. We’re out there—crazy Ubuntu users with crazy Ubuntu stickers on laptops. Actually, I don’t have a Ubuntu sticker on my laptop. It looks like an ordinary old Dell Inspiron 500m, except I tore the Designed for Windows XP sticker off.

I know I would’ve started talking about Ubuntu. But you’re right, Ubuntu is big. The other day I saw TWO Ubuntu logos on a newsstand: Linux Users’ cover and what seemed to be Edgy CDs with a short printed manual. I’d never before seen distros sold like that (though I saw OpenOffice CDs a few months ago).

Heh, all my laptops and desktops have Ubuntu stickers coming out of the fans :)

Frak: Out of curiosity – coming out of the fans how? Like flags/banners?
