It seems that GMail is actually spelled Gmail, despite what the logo implies.

I suspect the novelty factor will play a bit here and that people will want to try Buzz just because it's something new.

However, I completely agree with your #4 point. I'm sick of having to forever re-learn how to navigate through FaceBook. I only joined so I can stay in touch with my kids and NOT to have to undergo yet more maze testing. Let's just hope Buzz understands this.

My first idea is just about allowing people to buy into it a little without creating a full-blown GMail account. If people wanted to later create a GMail account to take advantage of more Buzz features, that would be fine.

Creating a GMail account is the same trouble as creating a new social networking profile, but it's more of a psychological barrier, I think. A lot of folks feel an email account is a commitment of sorts. Maybe I'm just projecting...

I'd just like to comment about your first point. First, I don't think tying Buzz to GMail is a mistake. Signing up for another email account is a barrier, but little more so than signing up for any other social networking site. I also think part of the motivation behind this is better integration for Android phones.

Maybe another reason is to try to build a community around those that already have GMail accounts? or to try to get those users to invite their friends?
