A while ago there were rumors of a Google OS, but it just turned out to be Google using their own modified version of Ubuntu internally. As far as I know, they have no plans--rumored or verified--to release a full-fledged distro or operating system of their own.

This is very clear to me. Google is taking steps to combat Microsoft in the OS battleground, but just supporting Ubuntu instead of releasing a distro by their own. Why I think there won't be a "Google Linux"? Because all of we know any newborn distro is almost useless for desktops and desktop-users are Google's main target. No, they will support a stable and proven-to-work distro.

The only thing I can complain about here is that Google Desktop for Linux does not index inside of Microsoft Office filetypes. For people that have only recently switched over, like me, this can be a problem. I have hundreds of stored documents that are still in .doc format, so GDL doesn't pick them up.

I guess I'll be sticking with Beagle for now. :-(

Wow, just wow. I'm speechless. Although I'm not a big fan of Google, the prospect of major company supporting Linux is intriguing.

Does this tell Google's version of Linux is coming (goobuntu)? Can't say anything yet.
