Installing Flash

First, visit a website that requires Flash.

For this example, I visited a YouTube page. Click the Install Missing Plugins button.

You'll then be prompted to install Swfdec, Flash, or Gnash. Install Flash.

You'll be asked if you want to install flashplugin-nonfree. Say Yes.

You'll be prompted for your password. Enter it and click OK.

Wait for Flash to install.

When Flash is finished installing, you'll get a message saying Changes applied. Click the Close button.

Then click Finish

Flash should now be working! If, for some reason, it isn't, you can try restarting Firefox.

About Flash
Adobe's Flash player allows you to play some multimedia web content. By using this tutorial to install Flash, you're agreeing to this End User License Agreement from Adobe.

If you have Ubuntu AMD64
If you're running 64-bit Ubuntu and want Flash, visit this page.

If you're not using Firefox
The standard plugin folder in Ubuntu is for Firefox. If you're using Opera or Konqueror, you may have to scan for plugins or specify the proper plugins folder.

If you're using Ubuntu 7.10
The page you're looking at now assumes you're using Ubuntu 8.04 or newer. If you're using 7.10, check out this guide instead.

If you're using Ubuntu 6.06

Fallback installation method
If this preferred method of installing Flash doesn't work, you can try installing Flash manually by following these instructions.
