This little-known film has a fairly strong narrative, from a literary standpoint. The characters are compelling, the plot both complex and simple at the same time, and the (internal and external) conflicts are fleshed out. It is a bit preachy and moralistic at the end, and sometimes the lacking-in-social-skills protagonist seems so pathetic you start to lose sympathy for him, but the story is ultimately well-crafted and tight. Craig Wasson does a particularly good job as the skeezy porn distributor (reminiscent of Sydney Pollack's performance in
Eyes Wide Shut). While the movie in general isn't titillating, there are a few sex scenes that seem extraneous.
