As far as Hitchcock films go, this is pretty good--not amazing, not mediocre; it's good. Both Cary Grant and Eva Marie Saint are excellent in their leading roles, and so is that guy from the original
Lolita (still slimy as ever here). This has all the elements of a typical Hitchcock narrative: mystery, suspense, conspiracy, humor, witty dialogue, a supposedly beautiful woman, and some great camera angles. There are a few holes in the storyline (Why do the bad guys think Cary's character is this other guy? Why wouldn't the FBI help him?), but the action is so upbeat and the sexual tension so real that, frankly, it doesn't matter. Oh, yes, the sexual tension is great. Eva Marie Saint may not look very good (in fact, she looks a lot like Michael Palin in drag), but she does seductress/flirt
very well, and Cary Grant is equally up to the task. If you want to see some good seduction/suspense, definitely check this out; and the DVD's crispness is amazing for such an old film!
