History of the World Part I

Buy at Amazon.comMel Brooks' parody of world history has some memorable and very funny scenes mixed in with some rather boring and trite fare. In many ways, it is like a Saturday Night Live episode--a collection of skits. Some work, others don't. I watched it a lot as a kid and didn't get any of the bawdy jokes or sexual allusions--I still enjoyed the film. Madeline Khan is particularly delightful as the Queen of Rome (and head of the vestal virgins of the Roman palace). --A.Y.
