Freaky Friday

Buy at Amazon.comOkay: unoriginal, full of stereotypes (of teenagers, old people, Asian people, etc.), predictable, and sappy. Ah, but who cares? It's really what you come to expect from a Disney remake. I was extremely offended that they cast that woman from Joy Luck Club who we've all seen can speak perfectly good English as the fobby daughter of a Chinese restaurant owner. Her fake Chinese accent is hideous. Shame on those Hollywood executive producers who made her stoop to that level. Yes, the whole Asian mysticism a la Gremlins and Breakfast at Tiffany's was a big turnoff. Get past that, though, and you have some great laughs. Every single antic you can spot ten minutes before it happens, but you'll find yourself laughing anyway! Lindsay Lohan (of Parent Trap remake fame) and Jamie Lee Curtis do a superb job imitating one another once they've switched bodies. Definite A+ for laughs and for cultural offensiveness. --A.Y.
