You have to like stupid comedies to like this film. It is classic Amy Heckerling (the director of Fast Times, Johnny Dangerously, and Clueless). A lot of the jokes are either silly or pure slapstick--not a lot of intelligent observations about life, here. There are a lot of memorable scenes, though, and one thing's for sure (hopefully)--seeing this family on vacation should really make you appreciate the family you do have.
