I have to admit, when I saw the trailer for this movie, I was sure all the funny bits were used up to make the trailer, leaving none left for the film. It was a funny film, though! Even the predictable parts had me laughing out loud--and, trust me, there were plenty of predictable parts. Basically, it's a kind of "Christmas Carol" story--man is ungrateful/mad at God, and then learns something through a bizarre set of circumstances. The weird thing is, unlike Dickens' classic,
Bruce Almighty is a heavy religious undertone to it. A lot about the power of prayer and sacrificial love, etc. I wouldn't say the movie is "Christian" necessarily, but I know a lot of conservative Christians who will probably be glad this came along. Overall, I'd say it's incredibly cheesy (but how could you possibly expect it not to be?) and funny. Although Jim Carrey runs through his entire repertoire of facial contortions, not all of the humor is slapstick here... and, more importantly, not all of the humor is Jim Carrey.
