Main Characters

Goose
Goose is by far the coolest ranger. He has his own little "harem." He's a fast gunslinger (though maybe not as fast as Daisy O'Mega). He talks like Clint Eastwood. And, he says dumb, cheesy things such as "Violence isn't great. It stinks!" Plus, he can turn into cool-looking bugs, gold, or whatever he wants. Even his ship, Elma, is part of his harem. Just listen to the way she says "All systems go, Goose"--reminiscent of Monroe's "Happy Birthday, Mr. President." Oh, and remember--he's not a metamorph!

Doc
In typical American fashion, the Black (or is he some kind of Latino?) character must be totally emasculated. Doc is effeminate, gets no women, and he is a stereotypical "computer nerd." I suppose we can fault Gaylord Entertainment for putting in a token person of color, but he does have some great lines. When Maya says, "I'm not what I appear" (or something like that), his reply is, "You mean you're ugly?" And who can forget his hokey "Mr. Yal, I presume" from Tower of Combat?

niko
Jean Grey--I mean, niko, has such a crush on Wolv--I mean, Goose--she has to evoke pity from her viewers, especially with contenders like Daisy O'Mega and Annie. It's too bad the show got cancelled after one season. I'd have liked to have seen her confess her undying love to Shane Gooseman. Hopefully, he wouldn't break her heart. I can't say I'm too fond of her, though. All she does is faint and swoon because some psychic shock hit her too hard.

Zachary
Cyclops is so annoying. Mr. Uptight, I say. Remember the end of Westride, when the Rangers are trying to arrest The Black Hole Gang and Goose wants to move the marker to trick them into thinking they're in the "safe zone"? What does Zack do? He says "It's wrong. I'll have no part it in." What an idiot. It's too bad the Queen's agents never shot him while he was taking so damn long to power up his shooting arm. All I can say to Jerry Orbach's character is, "You lied to me, too, Daddy!"

The Queen of the Crown
If the Rangers are X-Men clones on the New Frontier, The Queen of the Crown is the 21st-century Maleficent. She sure is mean. I never liked Eliza Fox, but putting the poor human in a psychocrystal is just malicious and completely unwarranted. The Queen's "bad guy laugh" is the funniest thing, though. Gotta love it.

And the famous introduction...
In 2086, two peaceful aliens journeyed to earth, seeking our help. In return, they gave us the plans for our first hyper-drive, allowing mankind to open the doors to the stars. We assembled a team of unique individuals to protect earth and our allies--courageous pioneers committed to the highest ideals of justice and dedicated to preserving law and order across the New Frontier. These are the adventures of the Galaxy Rangers!

Galaxy Rangers Theme Songs
These songs are in MP3 format and are available for "free" (for you, not me) download. Keep in mind this site is a privately owned site that does not generate any income. Do not download these too many times; otherwise, I'll exceed my bandwidth. In other words, if you want to give a copy to your friend who lives next door, burn a copy for her. If, however, you want your friend in another time zone to get these songs, send her to this site to download it herself. Click on the song title below to begin downloading:

Galaxy Rangers DVDs
Amazon.com will be releasing two legal and Region 1 DVDs of the Galaxy Rangers in October, 2005.

There's a DVD available at Amazon UK for £3.99 (around $6.00) with the two episodes Phoenix and New Frontier on it. Technically speaking, it's a "Region 0 DVD," which means it should theoretically play anywhere in the world. However, it is PAL- (not NTSC-) encoded, so for most American DVD players, it will not play. It will play on most American DVD-ROMs, though. Bottom line: if you're American, you can view it on your computer but probably not on your TV.

Every week or so on eBay, a Galaxy Rangers DVD set becomes available. It's usually made available by different sellers each time, but the page will include the caveat:

"Bidders with 0 feedback or new ebay members must email me with their contact information prior to bidding and be able to pay via PayPal. All new members or 0 feedback ratings bids will otherwise be cancelled. Too many false bids."

The description will also make a point of saying these are 10 DVDs, not VCDs, and that there are 46 (out of 65) episodes on the DVDs. I don't know about the other sellers, but I can personally testify to gtpilot1 being a good seller. The DVDs arrived within a few days, they were sent Priority Mail with a tracking number, and the picture quality was excellent (many of the episodes transferred directly from laserdisc). Again, I cannot vouch for other sellers, so don't blame me if they aren't as fast or reliable as gtpilot1. Another thing to keep in mind: even though the picture quality is excellent and you get 45 episodes, the episodes are not in any kind of logical order.

About Betamountain.com
I've been a big fan of The Galaxy Rangers ever since 1986. It just seemed smarter than the other cartoons out there. Ever since then, though, I'd been trying to hunt down copies of the cancelled show. Finally, I did, and I was inspired to make a website for it. For some stupid reason, the domains galaxyrangers.com and galaxyrangers.net were already taken, even though they don't have websites. So, I took betamountain.com. There already many good Rangers sites out there (see the links section above), but there were certain things I thought people should be able to find immediately--namely, the theme songs on MP3 and news on what DVDs are available. If you have anything to say, please sign the guestbook. Thanks for visiting.
